Theme licence agreement

One licence. One Shopify store.

This agreement defines the permission attached to every KANSO theme licence. It applies alongside the Terms of Service and the purchase details shown at checkout.

This is a licence, not a sale of source ownership.

You receive permission to install, customise, and use the supplied theme for one authorised Shopify store. KANSO retains ownership of the theme and all underlying intellectual property.

1. Licence grant

Subject to payment, these terms, and the licence remaining active, KANSO grants you a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to download, install, display, run, and modify the licensed KANSO theme solely for the connected Shopify store.

The licence includes the theme files, bundled assets, documentation, and KANSO-authored updates supplied for that licence. Third-party materials included in a release remain subject to their own notices where stated.

2. The one store rule

Each licence covers one Shopify store identified by its permanent myshopify.com domain and, if provided, its primary public domain. You may keep multiple copies, unpublished versions, or backups of the theme inside that same store.

A development, staging, expansion, regional, wholesale, or client store with a different permanent Shopify domain requires its own licence unless KANSO gives written permission. You may replace the connected store through the account controls, but one licence cannot be used on multiple stores at the same time.

3. Monthly, Lifetime, and complimentary access

Monthly

The licence remains active while the linked subscription is paid and current, including any limited payment-retry grace period. When Monthly ends, the permission to use the theme, receive support, download releases, and obtain updates ends at the close of the paid period unless mandatory law requires otherwise.

Lifetime

Lifetime means the right to keep using the purchased theme version on the connected store for as long as KANSO is legally able to grant that right. It is not the lifetime of the customer, Shopify store, KANSO business, or Shopify platform. Support and eligible updates are included for 12 months from fulfilment unless the purchase states otherwise.

Complimentary and beta access

Complimentary, trial, beta, or fixed-term access lasts only for the period and purpose stated when granted. It may have reduced support, update, distribution, or commercial-use rights.

4. What you may do

  • Use the theme to operate the connected commercial or non-commercial Shopify store.
  • Modify theme settings, Liquid, CSS, JavaScript, JSON templates, sections, snippets, and assets for that store.
  • Allow employees and contractors to work on the theme for the connected store under your control.
  • Create reasonable backup and working copies for the connected store.
  • Use screenshots and recordings of the resulting storefront in your own marketing and portfolio.

5. What you may not do

  • Use one licence on more than one Shopify store or share a verification key between stores.
  • Sell, resell, sublicense, rent, lend, gift, distribute, publish, upload, or otherwise provide the theme files or substantial portions to another person.
  • Place the source in a public repository, shared asset library, marketplace, template pack, course download, or competing theme product.
  • Remove or circumvent licence validation, distribution identifiers, security controls, copyright notices, or technical restrictions.
  • Use the theme or source to build, train, benchmark, or improve a competing commercial theme, generator, model, dataset, or code product.
  • Misrepresent KANSO code as your original theme product or register KANSO branding or confusingly similar rights.
  • Use the theme for unlawful, deceptive, infringing, malicious, or prohibited content described in the Acceptable Use Policy.

6. Agencies, developers, and client work

An agency or developer may purchase and configure a licence for a client store. The licence must be assigned to the actual store project and cannot be reused for another client. The agency must ensure the client accepts the KANSO terms or transfer operational control to the client through a process approved by KANSO.

Contractors may receive only the access reasonably needed to work on the connected store. You remain responsible for their handling of theme files and keys.

7. Verification keys and validation

A verification key is confidential licence material, not an API credential for general use. Keep it within the connected store's protected theme configuration and authorised KANSO account. Do not include it in public repositories, screenshots, support forums, or client-side code beyond the supplied integration.

KANSO may validate the key, licence state, connected Shopify domain, storefront domain, theme identity, version, and distribution identifier. Validation is designed to fail open during KANSO infrastructure uncertainty so a service outage should not prevent the storefront from rendering. A confirmed invalid, revoked, expired, or mismatched licence may be rejected.

KANSO may rotate or revoke a compromised key. Contact support@kanso.gg promptly if a key is exposed.

8. Updates, customisations, and compatibility

You own original store content and custom code that you or your contractors create. KANSO continues to own its theme code, including modified copies and derivative elements based on that code. Your modifications do not expand the licence scope.

Updates may replace or conflict with custom code. Keep backups and test updates before publishing. KANSO may provide an update workflow, but does not guarantee automatic merging or compatibility with every modification, app, browser, or future Shopify release.

An expired support or update period does not obligate KANSO to supply later releases. Security, legal, Shopify, or third-party changes may require KANSO to retire a release.

9. Ownership and enforcement

KANSO and its licensors reserve every right not expressly granted. No implied licence arises through purchase, access, estoppel, or custom. Store data, trademarks, photographs, product copy, and other material you add remain yours or your licensors'.

KANSO may use cryptographic identifiers, download records, connected-domain records, and licence validation to prevent and investigate unauthorised distribution. Enforcement will follow the Privacy Policy and applicable law.

10. Transfer, refunds, and termination

You may not transfer a licence, sell a store together with a licence, or move a licence to an unrelated owner without KANSO's written approval. KANSO may approve a genuine store sale after identity and account checks.

An approved refund, reversed payment, lost dispute, account deletion, material breach, or unlawful use may terminate the licence. On termination you must stop using the theme and delete copies under your control, except records that law requires you to retain.

For Lifetime access, KANSO will not terminate a compliant paid licence merely because the included support period ends. Mandatory consumer remedies and the Refund and Cancellation Policy remain unaffected.
